The popularity of certain models within the new Honda lineup, calls for a boost in production. To accommodate for this growth, Honda is focusing its attention on expanding operations in China. This includes the addition of a third production line and a new engine plant at the ZengCheng facility. A commemorative ceremony was recently held to kick off the beginning of construction.
Scheduled to be up and running by 2015, the new production line will also have the added benefit of being more energy efficient. It will include a solar powered generator with a 10,000 kilowatt-capacity, the largest to be installed by Honda in China. The line will also feature a highly efficient laser welding machine and an improved painting technology that reduces the number of paint coats needed.
Once operational, the third line will start off with the initial production capacity of 120,000 units, with the potential to produce up to double that amount in the future. This will boost the total automobile production capacity at the facility to 600,000 units annually, increasing Honda production in to China to about 1.02 million units. Quite an impressive addition!
